Android phones offer several ways to block unwanted calls, but the exact menu names depend on the phone maker, Android version, and dialler app.
Block a number
In many Phone apps, you can open the recent-call list, select the number, and choose Block or Report spam. This can help when the same number calls repeatedly. It may not stop calls that use different or spoofed numbers.
Review caller ID and spam protection
Some Android devices include caller ID and spam filtering. Open the Phone app settings and review the available options. If your phone offers automatic screening, read what information it uses and how calls are handled before enabling it.
Ask your carrier
Canadian wireless providers may offer network-level spam alerts or blocking features. Check your provider’s official support information for current options and any limitations.
Avoid risky callbacks
If an unknown caller leaves a message about a bank account, government payment, parcel, or legal problem, do not automatically call the displayed number back. Contact the organization through a verified website, app, or official document.
Look up the number
CallCheck.ca may show reports from other people who received calls from the same displayed number. Use those reports as one clue, not a guarantee. A lack of reports does not establish that a number is safe.
Report serious incidents
If the call involved attempted fraud, keep the details and report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. If it was unwanted telemarketing, consult the CRTC’s National Do Not Call List guidance.
The most effective approach combines device settings, provider tools, and careful verification rather than relying on a single block list.
