CallCheck helps Canadians answer one simple question: who just called me?
When an unknown number calls, most people search for it. The results are often old forum pages that are hard to read. We built CallCheck to give you a clear answer in a few seconds, with icons and a simple safe / suspicious / dangerous verdict.
Where our information comes from
- Reports from people like you. Anyone who gets a call can tap an icon to say what it was: a scam, a robocall, a telemarketer, a debt collector, a survey or a real business. They can also add a short comment.
- Public complaint data from the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The FTC publishes complaints filed with its Do Not Call program. We show these separately and label them as FTC data.
- Public numbering information, such as the province and area served by each area code.
How the verdict works
Each number page adds up the reports and shows the most common type of call. A number reported mostly as a scam is marked dangerous. One reported mostly as telemarketing or robocalls is marked suspicious. One reported mostly as a real business is marked safe.
Reports are not verified. Scammers can also fake (spoof) caller ID, so the real owner of a number may not be the person who called you. Please use CallCheck as a helpful guide, not as proof.
Keeping it fair
- Phone numbers, emails, links and card numbers in comments are removed automatically.
- Each person can report a number once a day, which helps stop spam.
- If your number is listed and you believe the reports are wrong, contact us and we’ll review it.
